A study conducted by Citizen’s Advice Scotland shows that 38% of adults in Scotland are concerned about paying energy bills. Installing alternative energy solutions, such as solar power, can deliver significant energy savings. However, you may be concerned about the costs of introducing solar power to your home. The good news is solar panel funding incentives are still available even if you missed previous solar panel grants.
Solar Panel Funding in the UK
Two solar panel funding incentives are currently available to UK homeowners: the EC04 Scheme and 0% VAT.
The Energy Company Obligation 4 (EC04) Scheme enables energy-inefficient households on low incomes to improve the energy ratings of their homes. This is achieved by installing energy-efficient heating systems such as PV solar panels.
Benefits of EC04
The scheme should see households elevated to EPC rating C and provide an average £290 annual saving on energy bills.
This scheme is aimed at low-income, vulnerable people, and eligibility requirements must be met.
The EC04 Scheme launched on 1st April 2022 and will run until March 2026.
VAT on solar panels is usually 5%, but the government has temporarily scrapped VAT on buying and installing energy-efficient measures for households.
Benefits of 0% VAT
Typical savings equate to approximately £1,000 off the cost of solar panel installation and £300 reduction in annual energy bills.
Most of the work must use energy-saving materials.
The 0% VAT Scheme started on 1st April 2022 and runs until March 2027.
